Microsoft handover computer hardware to Bosscha

Good news for you guys …
PT Microsoft Indonesia and the Office of the State Minister for Research and Technology would hand over a hardware completed with a 40″ monitor to Bosscha Observatory in Lembang, West Java. PT Microsoft Indonesia`s public relations manager, Mona Monika, said here Monday the hardware would be handed over to Bosscha observatory on Thursday in the observatory`s meeting room.
The high rate of pollution and densely populated areas had made people, including those in West Javanese, no longer able to observe space objects clearly, she said. It also happens in the surrounding area of Bosscha Observatory, a historical building with the biggest telescope in Southeast Asia since 1928.

She said that the hardware would be equipped with web-based worldwide telescope application, a new breakthrough to learn astronomical world for free, with a three dimensional graphic and enriched with e-learning contents. Bill Gates, Microsoft Corporation Chairman, had presented this application demo on the Government Leaders Forum event in Jakarta.

By the presence of the hardware, Bosscha visitors were expected to enjoy many outer space objects which were recorded in real-time from around the world, she said.

WiMAX certification

The WiMAX Forum has a certification program that subjects products to intensive, rigorous testing to assure everyone that they have the ability to interoperate with WiMAX devices from other vendors that have the same certification,” says Wright. “In June, Motorola’s WiMAX WAP 25400 base station passed the interoperability and conformance tests and thus received the WiMAX Forum Certified seal of approval for operation.
So we now have certification on our most popular base station product, called a DiversityAccess Point, for customers around the world. This is the access point or the base station that has the power amplifiers and antennas combined into a single unit to make it nice and compact. It has a minimal footprint, which means that it only needs a small common equipment cabinet that sits at the base of the tower, that can be mounted on a wall or a post or potentially placed inside of a building.”

“Right now they also in the process of getting a number of their Customer Premise Equipment [CPE] units going through the certification process,” says Wright. “We have both indoor and outdoor customer premises equipment that we sell around the world. They’re just about commercially ready with a PC dongle, a USB connector that plugs into a PC and provides full mobile WiMAX functionality. They’ve gone through all of the shakedown tests and so forth. That product is now in a state where it should be commercially ready very soon.”

The Indonesia Mobile Communication Market

The Indonesia mobile market has experienced an exceptional run of boom years. At the same time, the mobile operators are busy positioning themselves as growth starts to slow and competition becomes more intense. To continue to expand their customer bases and build market share, the operators must offer competitively prices.
The shape of the market can also be expected to undergo change as a number of new operators, with foreign partners, enter the market. There will be considerable interest in how the operators continue to take up the 3G challenge, especially following the somewhat controversial licensing phase.
